Most sizing approaches recommend a system that regenerates no more than once every three days, putting that household in the 7,680 to 9,600 grain-per-cycle range. Undersizing triggers frequent regeneration cycles that burn through salt and water. Oversizing leaves resin sitting idle too long, which can create conditions for bacterial growth in the tank. Factor In Efficiency & Maintenance
